The Minister of Information, announced today that tomorrow's underground forecast calls for an 8.2 magnitude earthquake for the San Francisco area. Fires causing widespread devastation are expected. The sky should remain sunny and clear with little chance of rain.
"Today's Sumatra is tomorrow's San Francisco. Are you ready for the weather underground?", said the Minister.
This maps of “liquefaction” zones shows what the ground in different parts of the city is made of, and gives a clue to where the ground will shake the most and where damage from a quake is most likely to occur. On a map, San Francisco may appear to be a 7 mile x 7 mile square, but here we see that blue, green and yellow mark the "real" San Francisco and red denotes the part man added later. Most of the city is landfill (red) and sand (yellow).
